If you don’t have Chrome installed, your links will get thrown out to Safari, but if you do have Chrome installed, anything you tap on in a Google app like Google , Gmail, Google Translate…a native YouTube app…perhaps an upcoming Maps app, all goes to Chrome. You get the picture.

The picture is that Apple’s going to ban this sort of override from their store before long (and vice versa on Android, Amazon’s phone, etc.).

Yeah - they certainly lock down the dialer. But URL schemes are open - they haven’t overridden dropbox yet. At some point this moves into the territory of MS-DOS & Explorer. It’ll be interesting to see where those lines get drawn, whether by Apple or DOJ.
